It was available in 5 colors: Carbon Black, Wine Red, Chocolate, Light Gold and Thin Red Line Special Edition.

The back is made of glass and plastic, most of the back panel is glass with a plastic accent piece in the back that has "smartisan" written on it.
On the black and thin red line special edition color variants there's also a plastic 3D accent piece for the logo. On other color variants it's just flat print under the glass.

The front is covered with Gorilla Glass 3 with an aluminum bar at the bottom which contains the home button and is connected to the aluminum frame.

On the front you can also find an LED notification light in the top left corner.

The left side of the phone contains a SIM card tray, the top side a microphone hole, the right side contains the power button and volume rocker while the bottom side has a USB-C port and 2 speaker/microphone grills.

The Smartisan U2 Pro was introduced by Luo Yonghao at a 7:30 PM local time, May 9, 2017 conference in Shenzhen.
The initial pricing was CN¥1499 for the 32GB version, CN¥1799 for the 64GB one and CN¥2299 for the 128GB one.
Along with the phone launched multiple accessories. Official cases for CN¥49, glass "screen protectors" for the back glass for CN¥49, skins for the phone's back with various designs for CN¥99 and Smartisan S-101 USB-C earbuds for CN¥99. The phone was initially sold on Smartisan's own store and JD.com.

The U2 Pro launched with Smartisan OS 3.6 and got updated up to 6.7.4.3. It runs Android 7.1 and never got a version update of the base Android system, only security patches.

== Navigation ==
This phone doesn't use on-screen navigation keys while containing only one hardware navigation button. Touching it is assigned to back, pressing it to home and double pressing to recents. Holding it invokes recording an Idea Pill but it can be changed in settings. The home button also contains a fingerprint sensor.
